Minerals and synthetic colorants are included in makeup. The highest amounts of these substances can be found in eyeshadow, lipstick and skin cream. Leaving it on can cause burns or blurry images. If you have makeup on, wipe it off before you go to the hospital.

Can you wear mascara in an MRI?
This could make paying for things a little bit more difficult for you, so make sure these are not in your pocket when you have an MRI scan. Do not put on makeup — Some makeup contains metals that can be harmful to your health.
Some makeup is made with mercury, which is a known neurotoxin. If you are pregnant or nursing, you should not use any makeup that contains mercury or any other metal that is known to be toxic to the unborn baby.

What should you not wear during an MRI?
You will be asked to remove any clothing containing metal and all jewelry. You will be provided metal free clothing to change into. Personal items such as wallet, purse, keys, phone, and other valuables can be safely stored in lockers.

The vaginal tampon is a thin, flexible tube that is inserted into the vagina. It is made of cotton or polyester and is about the size of a pencil eraser. When a woman has her period, she may feel a slight pressure on the tube, but it is not painful.
A woman’s menstrual blood is drawn from the inside of her vagina and placed in a tube called a catheter. This is used to measure the amount of blood in her body. If the blood level is high, it means that she has a high level of estrogen and progesterone. High levels of these hormones are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.

Wigs that contain metal must be removed for scans. Make-up, hair products, glittery nail polish, powdered hair dye may contain metallic particles which can heat up. Subjects wearing glittery or heavy make-up should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, mouth, or other sensitive parts of the body. Glasses, contact lenses, and contact lens wearers: Make sure the lenses are clean and free of dirt and dust before scanning.
If the lens is dirty, remove it from the subject’s head and place it in a plastic bag to be scanned. Hair that is too long or too short may cause problems with the scanner. The scanner may not be able to detect body hair. Skin that has been exposed to the elements, such as in the sun, can cause the skin to become scaly.
If a subject is wearing glasses or contacts, make sure they are removed before the scan. Subjects should remove any clothing that may be irritating to their skin. Shoes that are too small or are worn too often may affect the scanning process.
