The welder can see to work through a window covered with a filter called a lens shade, found in most welding helmets. The window in most helmets is made from a combination of glass and plastic.
The filter is designed to reduce the amount of air that enters the helmet through the lens and into the wearer’s lungs. The filter also filters out particles that can cause lung disease, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter.

Can you get arc eye through a welding mask?
Even though the mask is in the Light Mode, you still get shade 15+ protection from UV. This is the first time we’ve seen a helmet with this kind of UV protection, and it’s a huge step forward in terms of protecting your head from the sun’s harmful rays.
It’s also a great way to reduce the amount of time you spend sitting in front of a computer screen, which can lead to skin cancer and other skin problems.
How do welding helmets darken?
Figure 1, work basically by sensing the light from the arc and electronically activating a liquid crystal filter within the lens to darken to a preselected shade and protect the welders face and eyes from harmful UV rays. Figure 2 shows the same helmet, but with the filter removed, and Figure 3 shows a helmet with no filter at all.
Figure 4, you can see that the helmet is much darker than it was before. This is due to the addition of a UV filter, which reduces the amount of light that reaches the welding area. It is also possible to add a filter to an existing helmet that is already equipped with one, as shown in Figure 5.
However, it is not recommended to do so, because it can result in an increase in the cost of the new helmet as well as an increased risk of eye damage and/or blindness.
Why can’t I see when I’m welding?
You can get a wider lens for welding helmets. The helmet will still work, and the user will be able to see more of the weld. However, if you have a helmet with a wide lens, you will need to make sure that you are using the right lens for the job. The first is to buy a new helmet. How do you trigger auto-darkening welding helmet?
