When tying a quilt How close should the ties be?
Decide where you want your ties to be placed. If you are tying a quilt, I recommend that you keep the number closer to 4 or 5. If you have a lot of batting, you may need to use more than one tie. Thread the needle through the batting and thread the other end of the thread through your sewing machine needle. The needle should be about 1/2″ to 1″ from the edge of your batting.
This is the point at which you will begin to thread your needles. You will want your thread to be as tight as possible, but not so tight that your stitches will not come out. If your threads are too tight, they will be difficult to pull out, and if they are not tight enough, your stitching may not be strong enough to hold the fabric in place.
It is best to start with a small amount of thread and work your way up to a larger amount as you go along. When you get to the size you need, pull the excess thread out and tie it off.

To make a fleece tie blanket, you’ll need 2 coordinating pieces of fleece.
1/2 yard each of the following colors: black, blue, green, pink, purple, yellow, orange, red, white, gray, brown, navy, grey, tan, and white (or any combination of these colors, depending on the size of your blanket) A sewing needle and thread (optional, but highly recommended) A sewing machine (if you don’t already have one, I highly recommend getting one) Sewing machine Instructions: Cut out the pattern pieces and cut them to size.
Sew the pieces together using a 1/4″ seam allowance. You can also use a zig-zag stitch to make it easier to sew. If you want to add a decorative border to the top, cut out a piece of fabric that is about the same size as the border and sew it in place with a seam ripper.
I like to do this by hand, because it’s much easier and less time-consuming. Once you’ve sewn your border, pin it to your pattern piece.

If you want to use strip binding on your quilt‘s outer edges, you need to tie your knots first. You don’t need to tie knots if you want to use the pillowcase style, where you sew along the outer edges of your quilt then tie a knot at the end. If you choose to do this step, make sure that you have a good idea of what you’re going to be doing with your blanket. You can use it as a blanket, or you can make it into a pillow case.
Either way, it’s a great way to add a little bit of character to your project, and it also makes it a lot easier for you to keep track of where you are in the process of sewing the blanket together. I like to sew my pillowcases on the outside edge of my blanket so that I can easily see where I’m going, but you could also sew it on inside. It’s up to you.
The important thing to remember is that when you start sewing, be very careful not to cut your fabric.
Do you have to wash fleece before making a tie blanket?
Fleece fabric will shrink when dried, so drying the fabrics before the blanket is made is beneficial. Lay flat to dry after washing inluke-warm water. Cut the fabric to the desired length. I cut mine at a length that would allow me to wrap it around my body, but it could be shorter or longer depending on how I wanted to wear it.
If you want to make it longer or shorter, cut it at the same length as the length of your body. For example, if you are 5’2″, you would cut your blanket at 6’1″. The finished blanket will look like this: You can see that it’s a bit longer than I would have liked, so I trimmed it down a little bit. You can also see how the edges are not perfectly straight.
This is because I didn’t use a serger to sew the ends together. Instead, I just sewed them together with a straight stitch. The result is a nice, straight edge, which is what I’m going for with this blanket.
Can you use acrylic yarn to tie a quilt?
