Foundation series is certainly a must-read for sci-fi fans, but it isn’t necessarily going to be life-changing today the way it was for me in the 70s and was when I first read it.
But it’s still a great read for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of science fiction.

Should I read the robot series before Foundation?
If you really want to immersh yourself into Asimov’s universe I would recommend reading all the stories related to Foundation in published order. Foundation series, the Robot series and the Galactic Empire series would be included. Asimov also wrote a number of short stories, some of which have been collected in The Foundation Trilogy, which is a collection of all of his Foundation stories in one volume.
Where should I start reading Asimov?
The caves of steel is one of his more famous books. Robot is a collection of stories that might make it hard for a reader to follow a unified narrative of Foundation. It’s not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s also not the kind of book that I would recommend to someone who is just starting out in the world of science fiction or fantasy.
