The netstat command can show network status and protocol statistics. You can display the status of the endpoints in a table format. s, r, and t are the most frequently used options for determining network status. The s command displays the current state of the network interface. If the interface is not running, the command returns a nonzero exit status.

The netstat command outputs Proto, which is the protocol used by the sockets. The count of bytes not copied by the user program is referred to as recv-q. The count of bytes is not acknowledged by the remote program. The following example shows how to connect to a remote host using netcat.

The first command connects to the local host, and the second command sends a message to that host. In this example, we use the -p option to specify the port number to which the connection is to be made. If you want to use a different port, you must specify it in the command line.

You can also specify a host name, which will be used as the hostname for this connection.
