Yes it really does matter. The neutral conductor is the larger blade of the plug and its’ wire goes to the silver screw. If you follow the wire with your finger, you can see if it looks like the one in the picture above. If it does, you’re good to go.
If it doesn’t look like one of those, then you’ll need to use a wire stripper to remove the insulation from the smaller blade. You can do this with a pair of needle nose pliers or a small screwdriver, but it’s a bit of a pain to do.
It’s also a good idea to make sure that you have the correct size wire for your plug, as you don’t want to strip too much insulation off of it.
