Can I take power from a light switch?
Sometimes switch boxes can be used as a power source for a new outlet, but only if the box is large enough and has neutral and ground connections. If the outlet is small enough, it may be possible to use a switch box to provide power to an existing outlet. In some cases, you may need to connect an outlet to a circuit that is already in use.
For example, if you are installing an extension cord into a wall outlet and you want to turn it on when the cord is plugged in, then you can connect it to the existing circuit and turn on the new cord when it is connected. However, this is not always possible. In this case, the circuit must be connected to another circuit, such as one that already has power in it.
