Welders and related machine operators, over the period 2019-2028, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 23,200, while 25,100 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to enter the labour market in the same period.
This is mainly due to an increase in migration from outside the EU, as well as a decrease in immigration from the UK, which is forecast to decrease by 3,500 in 2018.
The number entering the work force is also likely to be affected by the introduction of the new National Living Wage (NLW) in April 2018, with an estimated increase of 1.5% in average weekly earnings for full-time workers and 2.0% for part-timers.
