The anti-crime advocate larry donnell “donnie” andrews died on december 13, 2012 at the age of 64. He was the inspiration for the character on The Wire. He was born in New York City and grew up in the Bronx.
During the Vietnam War, Andrews was a member of the Black Panther Party and was involved in a number of armed robberies, including one in which he shot and killed a police officer.
