A group of scientists from the University of Oxford think they have figured out the best and worst smells in the world. According to their study, sweaty feet is the worst smell, while vanilla is the best. The study was carried out by researchers from Oxford University’s Department of Zoology and published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
The team looked at the odour profiles of more than 1,000 people and compared them to a database of 1.5 million odours. They found that the most popular smell was vanilla, followed by sweat, and then a combination of both. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that researchers have found a correlation between a smell and a person’s personality.
In 2012, researchers at Harvard University found the same thing when they compared the smell of people with different personality traits.
Why can’t I smell my scented candle?
