What To Do With Glass Candle Jars? (Explained for Beginners)

what to do with glass candle jars

Most candle jars are made of glass and can be recycled curbside. Before recycling, be sure to remove any residual wax.

Explained in video below

Does Yankee Candle take back jars?

If you have removed all of the wax, the wick, and the label, then your empty glass jars can be curbside recycled, but please recycle all of your candle jar lids through terracycle®, as they are not recyclable.

What can I do with my empty Yankee Candle jars?

I up-cycle my candle jars when they’re done burning and use them to hold my flowers. They work well as a centerpiece down the table, for a party, and so much more. You can also add a few drops of food coloring to the water to give it a more vibrant color. I didn’t add any because I thought it would be too much of a hassle to add it.

If you don’t have any, you could also just use plain water. Just make sure you add enough water so that the jar doesn’t overflow and spill all over the place.

How do you dispose of finished candles?

Throw away wax if you don’t reuse it. You can scoop it into the garbage with a spoon, or melt or freeze to get wax out more easily. The wicks should be tossed. In the same way, glass jars and metal tins can be recycled curbside. Wax can also be used to make candles, incense sticks, and other household items.

What paint can I use on candle jars?

While spray paint can scratch and have strong fumes, decoart’s glass paint gives you a strong, durable finish and doesn’t fill you out. I’ve been using it for a few years now, and I’ve never had a problem with it.

It’s easy to work with, it dries quickly and it doesn’t leave a sticky residue on the glass. The only downside is that it can be a bit pricey, but I’m willing to pay the extra for the quality of the paint.

Can you microwave candle to melt them?

Melting wax in the microwave is fairly simple. Place the correct amount of soy wax in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on regular or high for 5 minutes. If your microwave doesn’t have a spin feature, put your wax in the microwave and stop stirring it. Repeat until all of the wax is melted.

If you want to make your own wax, you can use any type of wax you like. I like to use a mixture of coconut oil and beeswax. You can also use vegetable glycerin, but I find that it doesn’t have the same consistency as the other waxes I’ve used.

Can I melt old candles in microwave?

Take your wax and put it in a container. If you\’re looking for “microwave-safe” or “heatproof” labels on their packaging, ceramic and glass dishes are usually fine. Place your bowl/jug of wax in the microwave and heat for 1 minute at a time, or until the wax is melted. If you’re using a ceramic dish, heat it for a few seconds on high, then remove it from the heat and let it cool.

If you don’t have a microwave, you can use a small saucepan on the stovetop to heat up your melted wax. Be careful not to overheat it, though, as it can burn if it gets too hot. Once it’s melted, pour it into the bowl or jug of your choice. You can also use an ice cream scoop to scoop it out of the container, if you’d like to make it easier to pour.

Why did my glass candle explode?

As the wax pool spreads out to the edge, the hot splattering water/wax, and fire combination reaches out towards the glass container, causing it to melt. If you are using a candle that is not made of glass, you will need to make sure that you have a way to keep the fire from spreading out of control.

This can be done by placing a small amount of water in the bottom of your candle container. If the water is too hot to touch, it will cause the flame to burn out. You can also place a piece of paper towel or a paper plate over the container to prevent the heat from escaping.
