How do termites eat wood?
Termites have protozoa and bacteria in their gut that allow them to break down the cellulose fibers in wood, which is difficult for other creatures to digest. The organisms that turn the cellulose fibers into a meal for the termites are largely ignored by other animals.

Why do termites only eat wood?
